I work with a modern tech stack — mostly Node.js and React, or Python. Every website I build is based on a reliable and scalable platform called Varyshop for managing large companies. Varyshop is a modular system combining Javascript on the frontend and Python on the backend. The system is built for multiple companies and multiple websites; you can manage several companies with several websites under one instance of Varyshop. Everything in one place; some people might only see and manage their own company, some can manage all. User access is fully customizable to the company's needs.

It depends on the project size. Development begins after paying a deposit of 60-80%, with the rest due upon completion. Payments can be split into more parts if it makes sense - the work is divided into milestones and the partial payment is made upon reaching a milestone. Usually, this slows down development, but sometimes it's better for the order and comfort of both parties.
I have no problem working with or without a contract, but I prefer to find clients with whom everything works even without contracts. I base my work on trust, not paper. However, it always depends on the project; contracts for smaller projects don't make much sense to deal with. In written conversations, it is easily enforceable in court based on emails/WhatsApp communication, so it is pointless to pay lawyers an amount that is unnecessarily high compared to the cost of the work. For larger projects, documentation is drafted to guide us. I always keep requirements and history in a written document that records the edit history, so it's clear what we agree on even without lawyers. If a client insists on a contract for a smaller project, they pay for the contract at their own expense.
